What route did you chose?
Apprenticeship route – this involves staying in my current role as an AHP support worker. But attending university for 1 day a week, either in person or virtually. It’s a three-year course with exams and assignments to pass just as you would on the undergraduate. I also have to complete x 3 placements the same as undergrad, you can do these over longer periods splitting time between placement and your job roll, or in solid blocks assuming your work is fine to release you for this period. As it is an apprenticeship you also have to comply with a whole bunch of government apprenticeship standards, which is a little tiresome but hopefully ultimately worth it.
Why was this route the best option for you?
I had already been to university once, now as a mature student with a child and a mortgage to pay I simply could not afford to give up work for 3 years and incur a lot of debt with fees and loans, to qualify. The apprenticeship there for is the perfect opportunity for me, the trust I work for pay the fees and keep me employed throughout which suits me, and as I’m settled and local to the area, once qualified the trust will have grown their dietetic team with someone who is more than likely to stay with them for the majority if not all their career.
