What inspired you to become a Diagnostic Radiographer?

My passion to join the profession began at a young age as my mum used to repair x-ray equipment and I used to watch her whilst working.

Also, since coming to the UK I have researched about different health careers and radiography was the one I thought suited me the most and I felt I can succeed in.

Can you tell us about your career journey?

I have trained at the University of Cumbria and graduated in 2016.

Since graduation I have worked at Sunderland Royal Hospital, where I have also trained, then moved on to become a senior radiographer at South Tyneside District Hospital and worked there until January 2022.

I am currently working as a Senior Radiographer in CT at South Tees NHS Foundation Trust.

Can you tell us about any additional roles you have?

I am currently the Society of Radiographers (SoR) Northern Region Union Learning Representative Lead, Continuing Professional Development Officer, and Social Events Officer as well as the SoR Trade Union and Education Committee.

You mention coming to the UK. When did you move to the UK and why?

I came to the UK in 2007 to join my dad and the rest of the family who already reside in the UK.

How did you find learning English?

Learning English from scratch was not an easy task and required a lot of lessons and self-taught time in order for me to improve and learn the language quickly.

What support did you receive when you came to the UK?

I had plenty of support from friends and family as well as tutors at college who always encourage me to do the best and reach my dream goal.

Are you a member of any support networks?

I am of Arab origin and I have always received excellent care and support from my current and previous employers.
